As a tribute to late Mrs. Nhem Soeun, Samdech Chea Sim’s wife, a three day religious memorial was held. On 6 July 2009, a cremation ceremony presided over by His Majesty the King took place in Botum Vaddey pagoda, Phnom Penh. Attending the funeral and presenting condolences to Samdech Chea Sim and to late Mrs. Nhem Soeun’s family , Samdech Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly and spouse, Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister, and spouse, Samdech Chauvea Veang Kong Sam Ol, Deputy Prime Minister and Royal Palace Minister, and spouse, members of Parliaments, government top officials, and representatives from various institutions. Mrs. Nhem Soeun Chea Sim was posthumously decorated by His Majesty the King, a Moha Serey Vadhana medal, the highest merit in the Kingdom.
